COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Wisconsin Board Review Course in Geriatric Medicine is an in-depth review of the field of Geriatric Medicine. The course seeks to assist physicians who will be sitting for the May 2013 Certificate of Added Qualification (and Re-certification) Examination in Geriatric Medicine. It will also serve to assist clinicians who wish to provide better care to their geriatric patients. Faculty from the two medical schools in Wisconsin have joined forces to provide course participants with the depth and exposure that is necessary to prepare for an examination such as this. Faculty have been chosen for their full-time interest and commitment to geriatric medicine. Course participants will be exposed to principles of aging such as demography, and the clinical approach to the geriatric patient; and major syndromes such as dementia, incontinence, falls and metabolic bone disease. Special emphasis is placed on geropsychiatry, social/reimbursement issues and systems of geriatric care including long-term care and geriatric assessment. Organ specific diseases that have special import for the geriatric patient will also be reviewed. Finally, a special session focusing on the principles of multiple choice examination tests and strategies to efficiently complete these examinations will be given.
